Dec 2006 - The month of the Year

Finally....the long awaited month of the year has arrived!!!

Yes, it's our wedding month... doing the final touchup & preparation before our Big day arrives.... We been staying up late at 2am every nite to do up our house & also to rsvp our guest list(final list is 41 tables).... It's was a nightmare and chaotic at times coz pple drop out last minutes... sigh.... :-(

We also had our rehearsal on 2nd Dec with friends who are doing the worship & sound system together with our little nephews & nieces to go on site to practice the march-in! It was a rush session coz on the same day, we had arranged for our bedframe & mattress to be delivered and then rush to collect the keyboard from Roy & then proceed to Rasa Sentosa. When we are done with the rehearsal, we have to send Debbie's nephew home & brought Airrence's nephew & niece to buy shoes. After we are done with the kids, Debbie went to meet Airrence's frens' wives & gf for the hens party @MOS. The girls had dinner at brewerkz & then proceed on to MOS to explore this new place until 3am. It was fun!!

On 10th Dec, we invited our helpers to come to our house for a mini gathering cum helper briefing session. It was raining that day and our small little house is packed with about 10-15 pax. We bought some cakes, tidbits & drinks for our helpers & Airrence's sister came with big pack of noodle & beehoon + curry, fried fishball & chicken wings. Shortly after our helpers left, Airrence family members are at our new house. It was packed with kids running around with food, tidbits & drinks while we are busy trying to sort out the sitting arrangement!

12-12 is a special day. We went to ROM to collect our ROM cert!!! We declare that we are single & can marry one another! hehehee.... At evening time, we went to Sophia to collect our gowns & suit home!

15th Dec is the day before our wedding day! We went for 'grooming' session... hahhaa... Airrence cut & dye his hair while i did a backscrub with massage & also mani+pedicure... At nite, Airrence went to Sophia to collect the handbouquet & also get our car decorated with flowers & netting.... seeeeeeee so nice rite?? :p

The most important day of our life - 16th Dec 2006

Yes, after much awaited & long preparation process, finally today is the DAY! We started off the day at 6am with Candy from Sophia arrive at Debbie's house to do the make up & hairdo. Airrence got an easy time to pass through the jie mei gates keepers coz Debbie's mum can't bear to see him being te-kang by the girls. Finally b4 8am, he get to see Debbie in her gown & veil waiting for him!

After the session at Debbie's house, we went to Kampong Java Park for photo taking session. This is the place where we used to date very often.

Shortly after, we went to Airrence's house for the tea ceremony. Then we proceed to our new house to take some shots & change into tea dress before going back to Debbie's house again for the tea ceremony. We ended the morning session by 1pm.

<- Debbie family

Airrence family ->

We wanted to check in to Rasa Sentosa early but couldn't do so because the rooms are fully occupied so we waited till 2.30pm then reached the resort. We were greeted with orchid garlands & bouquet of red roses. Everything was nice except when we were brought to the bridal suite that facing the hill! Debbie was really disappointed & called Perry to check why we get hillview. Shortly, Perry called & told us that we will be moving to another room. It was the same room that we viewed many months ago when we were there! The room facing the sea & with a long balcony.. hehee.. :-p They also decorated the bed with orchids in hearts.

At 6pm, Debbie is all dressed up & ready for the solemnisation session at Waterfront Lawn. It was a beautiful day with nice sunset that day.

Our banquet was held at Siloso ballroom with 41 tables in all. The entire theme of the ballroom was in pink & creme roses as requested by Debbie. All our invited guests were punctual & we started our dinner at 8pm. We march in with a duet song - I finally found someone with Airrence & Debbie marching-in from different entrance doors. It was a brand new experience for our guests & everyone remembered our wedding through that special march-in song & entrance.

We want to Thank GOD for his blessings of good weather & the beautiful place that he blessed us with. We enjoyed our wedding day despite of some hiccups along the way but God is good & he keep them in control! :-)

Nov 2006

1 month more to go...

We have lotsa accomplishments this month.... First is we got our photo albums & next is our invitation cards & envelopes have finally arrived Singapore!!

Yes, we thank God for His miracle of solving the shipping/posting issues of our invitation cards!
This miracle is through my sis-in-law's help to bring back the other 50% so that really save us $$... We also brought our nieces & nephew to try out the flower girl & pageboy clothes provided by our bridal shop but only my niece couldn't fit in any piece.... :-( Otherwise, all are happy with what they will be wearing.

Our cute photo cards...

Our guest will bring this special photocard and entitle to free waiver for island admission fee.

Painting project
After much thoughts, Debbie decided to start the painting project in early Nov so that we can move in soon. We spent 12 hours to paint 3 coats of white for the living room & it was quite a tiring job for both of us. We woke up the next day with bad body aching that last for days.... a sign of old age.... hahahaha... Well more to go as this is just the beginning.... :-p

Hen's party with church friends - 17th Nov
This hen's party wass organised by my sisters from church... a small cosy gathering with 7 girls eating, teasing each other, playing cards, Q&A sessions & guessing game.... ;-)
We all had fun & we chit chat until 2-3am in the morning.... leaving us a feeling that we just went to chalet like those old good times... Oh not forget to mention that the gals have bought me a very nice precious moment long cushion that we have eyed on it before we bought our flat. Thanks Karen for taking the initiative to organise the party & thanks all for the lovely gift!! :-)

Golden number - SGN3517A
After 3 weeks, finally we received news that our car is registered & this is the golden number - 3517.... hahahhaaa... We collected our car on 24th Nov 2006. Here are some pictures to share :

Guo-Da-Li - 25th & 26th Nov..
We spent the whole day running around Singapore to distribute the card & cake for our relatives. Our cake was marble cake ordered from Prima Deli & thank god for the blessings of free delivery to my house & also the branch in Bishan gave us 10%!!

Couple gifts

In order to entice friends to come in pink & yellow, Debbie has prepared a small gift for those who dressed up in pink or yellow to attend the wedding party. There are 10 pairs of salt & pepper hugging set & 10 boxes of chocolate to win. See below pictures.

Oct 2006

An eventful month...

Yum Yum...We went for food tasting on the 5th Oct and we were happy with the portion & quality. It was really huge & we believe no one will go home cooking instant noodle on our wedding nite. However, we also decided to change the stir fry prawn to steam prawn for the freshness & taste.

Btw, this is the menu that we have decided for our wedding banquet :

Rasa’s Deluxe Wedding Appetizer Selection
Braised Shark’s Fin with Shredded Dried Scallops & Crabmeat
Steamed Chicken with Chinese Herbs in Lotus Leaf
Steamed Fillet of Snow Cod Fish with Black Beans, Garlic and Soya Sauce
Steamed Live Prawns with “Hua Teow” Wine
Sea cucumber with lingzhi mushroom & broccoli roses
Fragrant Rice with Chicken & Chinese Sausage in Lotus Leaf
Red bean paste with lotus seed and Tang yuan

A month that we spent most $$$$$...
31st Oct is the last date to buy Sims Drive flat... Been praying hard that we can get a unit there. After viewing 20 units there & closed to buying/offered 5 units, finally we bought 1 unit on 12th Oct! Well, it is not very cheap neither expensive as God knows our budget and constraint. The block is near to bus stop and not very far from Aljunied MRT station. The condition is pretty ok but of coz need to clean up the house & do some painting then we can move in. We also managed to negotiate with the owner to let us take over the key earlier so that we can do up the renovation. So now pray that the transaction and process will be smooth then we have a place to stay on our wedding day!! :-)

Our furniture
We bought our mattress - king size and bed frame from Bedding Saloon. The mattress brand is Simmons & it cost us a bomb! Anyway, next thing that we have to buy is the basic furniture & neccessities for the flat. As it is temporary house for us, we do not want to spend a big bomb on the furnitures. Hence, we come up with a budget of $1500 to buy basic things like dining table, tv console, fridge, washing machine, etc etc... long list of items to be mentioned here. As we are limited by $, so we started to explore second hand stuffs. There are many cheap & interesting things that Debbie found from the forum & yahoo auction! ;-)
So far, we have bought a dining table + 4 chairs, tv console & reserved fridge, sofa & computer table! What else is missing..... fan, washing machine, a few more on the list & we r done!... pictures are available at our website @ debbieandairrence.myphotoalbum.com :-)

Our pre-wedding photo album
We are supposed to collect the album early this month but was delayed because the layout designer did a poor job for the first draft. We were very disappointed & have to make several call on the phone to tell the designer on what to amend and guide her step by step. After 5 amendments & 2+ weeks, finally we got the layout confirmed & are happy with it. So finally now can send for printing and wait for collection in early Nov! Check out the digital copy @ debbieandairrence.myphotoalbum.com :-)

Our first car
Well we have never spent sooo much $$ in our life.. ..After much discussion & analysis, finally we decided to buy a car! Well, we bought a cute car to start off, which is Honda Fit. Prior to that, we went to showroom in LengKee Road to see Subaru imprezza, Toyota & Honda Jazz... Then we proceed to the carmart in Ubi & visited a few PI(Parallel Importers)... Finally, we went to Turf City & bought the Honda Fit from a PI there!

Stressed....

Originally our plan is that we will receive our wedding invitation by end of this month then we will proceed with the distribution of card in early Nov.... BUT due to the stupid haze, our cards are stuck in indonesia.... We only managed to get some help to fly back 50% of the card but the envelopes were missing so also cannot post out..... Sigh.... Now have to pray for miracle that someone or friends are going over to indonesia to help to bring back the remainding cards & envelope! Stressed.... :-(

Completed Tasks

Finally Debbie has managed to finish 9 corsages & decorate the 2 flower girl basket. It took her several nites to fold & stitch the ribbon roses and sticking the feathers & make it look nice. ;-) Hope the 'sisters' will like it!

Sept 2006

A special day for Airrence

3rd Sep is Airrence baptism day! Our friends & Debbie's sister & niece were there to support Airrence in the water baptism ceremony. We are glad that Airrence's mum has also given him the blessings to be baptised! :-)

Finally It's here!
After a long wait & many prayers, i received the wedding favor arrived at my house in early Sep! I was at home when the postman came with 2 big boxes. I was sooo excited & quickly opened it to check to ensure that everything is still in good condition. Thank god that after much hiccups & delays, with the help of colleagues that these 2 parcels can reached my house eventually. Lesson learnt is buying things from oversea does have some risk & stressful.... ;-) Hmm.. did i mention that it was a couple coaster (boy & girl) in yellow & pink color to match my color theme? I had 2 designed logo created by me & customised with our names & date on it. :p

Wine Tasting Session
We need to get wines for our wedding banquet so we start on the wine shopping & tasting session. First, we went to Star Cellar at Stamford court and the price was quite ok but we need to cash & carry the wines. Next, we went to Cornerstone & tried their house wine. It was good & reasonable price & they allow consignment plus delivery! Few days later, we also went to Brix at Boat Quay and the wine was good but costly. We also went to Raffles City & Carrefour wine fair but the price aren't attractive for the good & drinkable wines. Hence, we know who will be our choice of wine supplier.

Balloting for RedHill flat
We submitted our online application for the 4 room flat in RedHill MRT. We also went to view the showflat and it was quite spacious. Well, the chances to get a unit there is slim. We saw from the website that only 100+ unit available & 2600 applicants. Sigh.... Singapore is forever competitive environment...

MP Letter
After viewing about 10+ units in Sims Drive & yet haven't bought any flat, Debbie decided to seek the MP help. She went for the MPS and told her MP about her request for the new flat in Kallang MRT. The MP agree to write her letter to HDB. 1 week later, we received the letter that HDB will look into our request. While waiting for the results, we saw a unit in Sims Drive & nearly bought the unit but we gave up because we thought the MP letter may help us to get the unit faster. Thus, we lost the chance to get the Sims Drive unit & the HDB reject our request... Sigh.... very disappointing & disheartening rite??!?!??! :-(

July - August 2006

Our first offer

After 2 months of searching for a unit in Sims Drive, finally we saw one that is of reasonable condition and price too! We contacted the seller agent directly hence she is also our agent. We offered the owner $170k and waited for the owner to revert back. After a few days, the owner agreed to sell to us. However, we hesistated and then some other buyer counter offer at $172k thus we lost the deal. Well.. we aren't sad about it that time cause we thought something better may come along the way.

Weeks later in August, we saw another nicer unit but they are asking for $175K. We don't dare to take the risk to offer the owner thus we lost this deal. Later we found out that this unit is cheaper than the $172k unit that we offered previously. Anyway, somehow later this unit was out for sale again as the buyer is not eligible to buy the unit. We are excited & offered the buyer but buyer rejected us because the condition from her is we must give them 2 months free stay after the final completion date. And of coz we can't compromise to her request as we wanted to get the unit for us to stay on our wedding day.. Sigh.... So we wait & search again...

Hallelujah Praise the Lord!
We met the PMC coordinator - Jessie & her husband - Joe for the final interview session. We had a good session with both of them & they gave us the blessings to proceed with the church blessings service & a relieve for us! It's been our desire, esp Debbie to hold church wedding but at outdoor location. We are very excited & looking forward to the day of our Holy Matrimony that is blessed by God.

Designing wedding card
After we have collected the softcopy from our PS, we shortlisted our favourites pictures. Then Debbie uploaded the pictures & the supplier started to work on the design. The first draft was really impressive & our supplier is very helpful & creative! Only minor amendments are required and we also updated some of the invitation text & very soon, we confirmed the design & it was sent for printing in August. We are told that it will take about 3-4 weeks for printing & packing so hopefully we can get the cards ready by October. :-)

June 2006

It's a long wait....

I went for my first gown appointment in April & after waited patiently for 2 months, finally I received phone call that it is READY!!! Yipeee... it's here! :-) We were very excited to see the MTM gown & wonder if it looks good as it is on paper. So we made the appointment and went there with high expectation.

The minute the gown was presented to us, we gave the "WoW" look to the designer. It was really very nice & Debbie was very happy & pleased with the gown as it fits exactly well on her.

Besides fitting on the wedding & evening gown, Debbie also selected her outdoor gown and extra gown for photoshoot. It was rather limited in the selection as it was a peak period & most gown are out for photoshoot. Sigh... this year got 2 lunar 7th month hence everyone rush for the PS before the 7th month starts. Thus, Debbie settled with a red cheongsam as the other cheongsam color are not nice or the cutting kinda weird. while the outdoor gown is a low cut halter neck as Debbie wanted a low back gown to look different in the photo album. During the selection, Debbie tried on a few other outdoor and was shocked that some brides are really petite as she can't zip or breathe in some of them.....

Airrence, on the other hand, selected his white horse prince charming suit.. hahahaa... Other than that, he also picked a china color black suit to go with Debbie cheongsam for the photoshoot. We managed to snap some pictures to capture the moment.

Photoshoot day - 21st June 2006
It was a busy & exciting day for us. The day before, Airrence & Debbie travelled to Debbie's sister place to get the car. Our bridal shop does not provide transport hence we borrowed Debbie's sister car for a day. The parking in Tanjong Pagar was really expensive & it cost us $12 for half a day. We loaded the car with lotsa props & extra clothes for Airrence & shoes for Debbie.

We started with the makeup at 9.30am and Candy is the MUA(Make-up artist) while Bryan is the photographer assisted by TingTing. We used all the props that we brought & it was fun! By11.30pm, Debbie was dressed in the gown & ready for the first photoshoot. Next on the list was the cheongsam photoshoot & then follow by lunch, complimentary from Sophia. Lunch was EeMee for Debbie & hongkong fried noodle for Airrence. After lunch, the evening gown became a bit tight for Debbie... hahahaha.... Finally at 4pm, we are all ready for the outdoor photoshoot! We had a tight schedule as we wanted to cover Singapore Yatch Club & Sentosa to capture the sunset. The weather was good & we had beautiful shots @ SYC. We ended the session at 7.30pm @ Rasa Sentosa Resort hotel balcony. It was really tiring for everyone but Airrence & Debbie still have 1 more task to complete, ie to send the car back to Debbie's sister place.

One week later, we received phone call that the photos are ready for selection. We started shortlisting 300+ photos from 7pm till 12am... It was a tiring session as we have to keep in mind not to top up too much photos else it will burn a hole in our pocket thus we have to harden our hearts to give up some of the very nice photos! Anyway, we ended the night with additional photos on top of our package & traded-in the wedding car to save $ so now have to look for car on our own... sigh.... any kind soul wanna contribute your car to us on our wedding day? :-p Btw, u can check out our photos here - http://debbieandairrence.myphotoalbum.com/

May 2006

Hiccups do happen :-(

We have lesser activity in May but there are several headache issues to settle.

What happened was we have ordered our wedding favor from overseas and the items was not to Debbie specification and design. Hence, Debbie has to chase after the sales person to correct it and ensure that they know what should be done. After several round of amendment on the design, the sales person left the company silently!!! Debbie was shocked & prayed for help! God answered her prayers & someone from that company replied Debbie email that she is taking over but very unfortunate thing is she know nothing of the agreement between Debbie & the previous sales person. Hence, Debbie has to talk to the boss and he is aware of the arrangement. Thus, Debbie has to patiently wait for the redo.

The next thing that we did was to start to look for flat. Our initial intention is to wait for WIS(Walk-in-Selection) from HDB & we waited for 2 months with no news from HDB. However, on one occassion, Debbie was checking out HDB website & found there are new flats next to Kallang MRT. That night, both of us went to check out the new flats there & fall in love with the look & design of the flats! However, it was still under construction but close to 95% completion. So we thought it may has WIS opportunity. Debbie contacted HDB and found out that it is reserved for the enbloc people. Thus, the only mode of getting these flats is to buy an enbloc unit. Then we started to look out at newspaper for those enbloc flats in Sims Drive and started to view the units.

Just a quick summary of what is enbloc flats - it is typically very old flats that was build in the 1970's and the condition are pretty old without any upgrade by HDB. We went to view a few units and nearly fainted at some of the condition of the flat. Some units are having wooden windows, some of the kitchen cupboard are about to fall off from the wall and some of the owner setup their house like a mini temple. We were shocked to see such old flats & can't imagine living inside there for 1+ year. But we still continue to look out for other units in that area cause we want to get our dream unit in Kallang. :-)

April 2006

Busy month

Our first gown fitting appointment on 2nd April. Prior to the appointment, Debbie has been deligently surfing the net to check out various gown designs. Here is a good website to recommend :

http://www.aboutweddings.com/fashion_feature/

Debbie has downloaded a number of gowns that she liked & brought it along during the first appointment to show the designer. We started at 2.30pm and ended at 7.30pm. It was a fun experience!

Based on the gown pictures, Geraldine, our designer know what Debbie likes and pulled out about 10 OTR(On-The-Rack) wedding gowns to try. However, Debbie couldn't find the ideal gown as she only liked a top portion of one gown & the bottom portion of another gown. Thus, we decided to go for MTM(Made-To-Measure) gown which is in our package. So Geraldine went on to draw the gown and Debbie continue to try the OTR evening gowns with the assistant from another sophia staff. After trying out about 8 pieces of evening gown, Debbie decided to settle for a pink gown. Not too long later, Geraldine also showed Debbie the gown sketches & it matched about 90% of what Debbie has in mind. The picture on the right is sketched by Debbie before she go for the first fitting and Geraldine sketches looks similar to Debbie sketches but of coz hers more professionally done! Both of us are very impressed with Geraldine design! After we confirmed the design, it was sent overseas for the gown to be made.

The next thing that kept us busy in April was our PMC (Pre-marital counseling) class from Church. It was a 6 weeks course but was extended to 7 weeks because there are a lot of interaction & sharing of experiences during the class. Overall, we do enjoy the session very much coz there are nice food & our counsellor has given us many good tips & interaction with fellow church mates who are also preparing for their wedding!

March 2006

The "I O U" Ring & Flower

Debbie moved back to SG in March and Airrence was at the airport with a big bouquet of flowers in his hands that day waiting for her arrival. Look at the picture on the left. It's Debbie all-time favourite flower & color(other than pink)!

Prior to the 'ring' shopping, Airrence & Debbie started doing some research online as to where to get a good diamond ring and what are the things that we have to take note while buying the ring. We have a website to share : http://www.proposalring.com. We are overwhelmed with the 4C's and details that we need to take note while deciding on The Ring.

Thus, Airrence started to bring Debbie to numerous shops like LeeHwa, Soo Kee, Goldheart, TianPo, etc to see & try on all the diamond rings until we found the one. So what is so special with The Ring? Take a look at the picture.

One day, we walked into SooKee at Wisma and was browsing through their collection of diamond rings. We told the lady what we have in mind and she showed us the Feugo ring. We liked the cutting & clarity however they don't have the carats that we want as it is reserved at other store. So we joked with her that we will try to find the fated ONE. Few days later at Soo Kee Bugis, we found the fate ONE. So we bought it immediately!

From then on, we became Soo Kee loyal fan club coz we also bought our wedding bands under the Jac Laurent series and later on also bought the jewellery set - Affecrio™ Wedding Set too. The sales assistant at Bugis is now our good friend whom will keep us updated when got sales in Soo Kee.

January to February 2006

We are getting married!!!

We informed our family & friends about the news & everyone is happy for us! :-) We also started our preparation in January with tonnes of activities in mind to do...

First on the list - Selection of Venues

We wanted an outdoor solemnisation so we narrowed down to locations like garden, beach & poolside. Debbie made the contacts with various locations & hotels to gather the quotations. Both of us also short listed 2 out of the 10+ quotations that Debbie got. Make a guess which is the 2??

They are Rasa Sentosa Resort & The Legend @ Fort Canning. Airrence went down to do site visit for these two places as Debbie is still in HK. After the viewing, Airrence made recommendation to Debbie & the results is....... Rasa Sentosa Resort! The reason is simple. That place is very special for both of us as we celebrated Airrence 2005 birthday in Sentosa & we joked about holding wedding at Rasa when we walked into the hotel for fun. So it's a joke that became true!

Second on the list - Bridal shops

Prior to shortlisting the bridal shops, Debbie have joined the wedding forums (see my favourite & highly recommended forum) to check out useful information.
- Style weddings @ http://www.styleweddings.sg/
- SingaporeBrides.com @ http://www.singaporebrides.com/cgi-bin/forumboard/discus.cgi?pg=topics

There are many interesting stuff like bridal shops, wedding favours, banquet, anything under the sky, etc... Sometimes you can really get good lobang from these forum... ;-) Well, Debbie also has made some friends from the forum & it's really fun!!

After reading & researching on the forums, we went to tanjong pagar to check it out!! The first shop that we went in is a expensive bridal shop & they are not keen to serve us as we did not make any prior appointment. Then we continue on to the second shop which is Sophia & we decided to sign up with them! Well this is the fastest decision that Debbie has ever made on the spot as we just started our 'shopping trip' and hasn't get enough pricing to compare... :-p

Anyway, what attracted us to sign up the package is becoz of the following :

1. Special discount & attractive price due to chinese new year promotion - so meet our budget!
2. Beautiful gowns - the friendly designer brought us into their VIP room where there are a lot gowns & we are impressed with the grand & wide range of gowns!
3. Photography/Album - we like the layout & photos, very natural & original!
4. Service - our coordinator has been quite helpful to our many requests, for eg the last min request of white suit for Airrence & extra set of flower girl & page boy clothes, etc

After we signed up with Sophia, Debbie is not convinced that we have the best deal in town, hence we continue on with the bridal shopping trip in Marina SQ and also Tanjong pagar.

The experience in Marina SQ was quite a bad one. The sales people there are pushy & all they care of is the package price that they can offer to u! When Debbie tried to ask whether can look at their range of gowns, they rejected & brush away saying they don't display their gowns to avoid competitor copying their design. Sigh.... Anyway, we also don't like their photo album too as too much computer graphic & they look fake. As for the bridal shops in Tanjong pagar, they are friendly but price wise are almost same as Sophia but their fitting room are much smaller.

Our wedding website

Debbie started to build a simple website for our invited guest to read about our love story & the wedding day details like time & location. They can also rsvp online & look at our photos. Do check it out at http://debbieandairrence.weddings.com/ and leave us a message on our guest book!!!

The day Airrence proposed to Debbie

2nd January 2006

That day, Airrence was at the HK airport departure hall about to board the plane back to SG. He went to the toilet & when he came back at the departure gate, he asked Debbie.... "Honey, will u marry me?"

Debbie looked at him & smiled asking him...."Where is the flowers & diamond ring?!?!" ;-)

Well, Airrence give a guilty smile replying that he tried but can't find them in the airport hence it will be I O U (O=owe) when Debbie returned to SG. Debbie hesitated & tell him that ..."Nah.. not sincere enough...."

Hence, Airrence kneel down infront of Debbie & the crowd was watching . Eventually Debbie agreed to say "Yes" when Airrence made the second attempt kneeling down infront of Debbie.

Well this is how simple the proposal story of Airrence & Debbie goes... Nothing like fireworks nor big Tiffany diamond ring but a heart that is genuine, sincere & true from Airrence to Debbie. :-)
